How to extend the life of your garage door and door opener
Is there a way to extend the life of your garage door and door opener without spending a fortune on maintenance? Damian Douglas, owner of Las Vegas based Damian Douglas Garage Door Service says yes, there is a way.
The garage door experts says following a few simple maintenance steps can help extend the life of your garage door and opener, and they will not cost you a lot of money.
“Most homeowners fall into two categories; there are the ones that spend a fortune on their garage doors and then, there are the homeowners who completely ignore them until they break,” Douglas said this week in his office in Nevada.
“The first group of homeowners is continually doing things to their garage doors and in the process, spends more than they need to. The other group does not maintain their garage doors. They ignore them until one day they quit working. Then, they call in the experts and spend a lot of money trying to fix it,” he continued.
Douglas said there is a middle ground where you have a properly tune garage door that functions as it should without costing you a lot of money monthly.
“You spend a little bit at a time, pay attention to the door and call in the garage door professionals only when it is absolutely necessary. All you need to do is follow simple steps and you can have a perfectly functioning garage door month after month,” the Las Vegas Nevada garage door repair specialist said.
Douglas advised homeowners to set a maintenance schedule.
“This could be something as simple as a schedule to clean the garage door or check all bolts, hinges and joints to ensure everything is still tight. You could also check the garage door chain or belt, garage door balance, oil the tracks, sheaves, rollers and hinges or opener remote control batteries,” he said.
He said most homeowners do not pay attention to what their garage door is doing or saying to them. “Imagine opening your garage door and you hear a loud clanging noise. Most homeowners hear this every day and just ignore them. It could mean that something is not right with your door but if you are not paying attention, you will miss it,” he said.
Douglas said it is always a mistake for homeowners to wait until the door actually breaks before calling in the experts. “By the time your garage door breaks, it is already too late. You should never wait that long. If you are paying attention to your door, you will notice a difference in the way it operates and this should alert you to problems before it turns into a major issue,” he said.
